A Cherokee Proverb: Two wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, there is a battle inside us all. It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is made up of anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego."

"The other” he continued “is good - this is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.”

“The same fight, my son is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed".

Cultivating your mind

Consider your mind to be like a garden: the more you tend it the more rewards will flourish: When we simply observe what is there, when we weed it by releasing negative thoughts, and cultivate it with good intentions, compassion and gratitude as you might nourish and water the plants you wish to grow, gradually love and goodness will flourish.

How is garden of your mind and how do you nourish it?
